Is Quicktime Dead?

Here's a bold opinion piece on Flash losing the war to Quicktime, Real and WMV.

I suppose this makes me feel better about Revver's Blinkx.tv partnership since that helps Revver's content get distributed via flash with the tags intact. Good move.

By the way, a few of you posted about my comments on the quality difference between Flash and Quicktime. Here's a nice thread by folks debating flash vs. WMV vs. Quicktime vs. RealMedia.

Great, more software to buy and learn on a dollar ninety nine budget.

So is that how Revver takes my 15-20 meg QuickTime H264 videos and turns them in to 2 mg files?

Sorry Kevin, I wasn't really debating the formats. Flash has won outright for video online. Don't believe me? Notice how practically every major news site has switched from WMV to Flash over the last few months.

My feeling is that within a short amount of time the video sharing marketplace will demand Flash (although probably Flash 8, which is higher quality than YT is delivering), and will punish those who use other formats.

i think you're right. Flash 8 seems to be the way to go.

securing it is another story.
